Guidelines for Healthy, Happy Colic-Free Babies

Note: This is a list compiled from my own experience raising a son, advice from my mother and various friends and midwives. My approach is holistic in nature – I believe that by eliminating as many possible sources of stress from your baby’s environment, you give him or her a chance (and yourself!) a chance to really relax and feel safe and nurtured. Right now, I’m just posting off the top of my head, but you can be sure that these guidelines are based in hard facts…none pose any threat or risk to your child, so why not try different ideas out and come up with your own best fit?

  1. Healthy, Happy Mama & Papa!
How can you be good to yourself and each other today and every day so that you are feeling good and positive about life overall? If you don’t know, find something – perhaps 5 minutes of deep breathing every morning, or yoga or a walk. A gift to yourself that pays everyone back.
  2. A Clean Home and Bed.
(and I will go into detail at some point in the future about what the word actually means in practice. I feel the need to expand on this topic at some point in the future because it seems so few people actually know how to apply its principles in an acceptable manner).
  3. Quiet Time.
It’s very important that babies get quiet, peaceful time in your home every single day. That means turn off the t.v., the stereo, the washer and dryer, the vacuum cleaner (there is a time and place for that), put your cell phone on vibrate…just allow your home to be blissful, peaceful, delicious quiet. This should not only be during baby’s nap time. There should also be other times of the day when there is a hush over the household, a lull in activity so to speak.
  4. Nap Time.
It should go without saying that nap time means quiet time. That means you too! Don’t sit there and yak on the phone next to your sleeping child. How would you feel if you were trying to take a nap and someone was right next  to you talking on the phone?  Exactly.  So, you need to go in another room where you can still monitor the baby but your voice will not be incessantly droning in  your baby’s  ear while baby is trying to catch some very-important-for-his-development zzzzz’s.

  5. Routine, Schedule, Rhythm.
This helps establish security in your baby’s mind. They know when they can expect changes, they can relax into an ebb and flow of life. It works for the oceans and the moon. Why shouldn’t it work for your baby? This is another topic I will expand upon at another time – ideas for how to establish rhythm and order in your child’s daily life. For now I will say that one of the most important times of the day to get on schedule is BEDTIME. This is key for your child’s lifetime sleep habits, and your sanity in the near short future and beyond.
  6. Healthy Nutritional Support.
Oh yes, you knew it was coming. Healthy Diet and eating habits are SO important to establish early in your babe’s life.  Yes, it starts with you and your habits.  And if Junior has colic, he’s already trying to tell you how important diet is going to be for his health, happiness and well-being. So take a hint.  If you aren’t already schooled in the Best Way to Eat on The Planet, you better look into Macrobiotics right now and get on with the program, yo!

Even when mom and dad have the most cleanest, purest diet on the planet, there is still a chance that lil’ bubba is going to need some nutritional assistance in order to clear up his colic.  That’s when Simplexity’s Digestive Enzymes come in.  That’s  why you made it to this site…Time for a solution that  is going to deliver results and help run colic out  of town.
