Beat the Sugar Blues with Maple Candies!

June 122007

My son is ultra-sensitive to products that contain refined cane  sugar.  I even had him tested for allergies – he’s not officially allergic to cane sugar but he is intolerant.  That’s one step down from a full blown allergy, in that he does react physically and emotionally when he ingests cane sugar – even if it is just evaporated cane juice (a tricky way of saying “sugar” without saying “sugar” outright.  I  think that’s called a “euphemism”).  At any rate, I feel more parents should be more aware of how much sugar their children consume on a daily basis.  We might have a lot less tweaked out, bratty, overweight, zoned-out, out-of-control hyper kids if there was more consensus on this.  We’re getting there.

At any rate, ahem, excuse the rant.  What I actually wanted to do today was offer a delicious solution for caring mommies, daddies, grandparents and smart adults.

Try them, try them, you will see – Maple candies are delicious and do not have the same hyper-activity inducing  affect on my child.  You can give them as stocking stuffers at Christmas, Valentine’s day, Easter, Halloween – or any other sugar laden commercialized holiday where you may feel compelled to spoil your children with tasty treats.

I ordered maple candies for my son from Maple Valley – a fair trade maple syrup company.   They shipped promptly, had excellent customer service, and the candies are divine.

Any comments on the topic of feeding children refined sugar?  I’d love your feedback.
